Dance Teacher's Training - the pedagogical-didactic program for dance teachers

This on the job  training program is based on the studies of Said el Amir, who first completed the Master of Advanced Studies in Dance Science (CH) and then the Master of Science in Dance Science (UK) with distinction. 

Said then bundled the extremely valuable, theoretical knowledge from these studies into practical, easy-to-implement seminars and finally developed this intensive advanced training from it. Based on the areas of " Health & Performance ", " Motor Learning & Motor Control " as well as " Psychology & Education " and scientific publications in the field of pedagogy and didactics in dance, this program offers profound knowledge about

  • Dance medicine/functional anatomy
  • Warm up / Warm down structures
  • Learning types, teaching methods, learning goals
  • Motivation, psychology, communication & conflict management
  • Pedagogical-didactic structure of lessons (ie how to create technique-based  and dance diagonals / dance combinations)



  • All participants receive exclusive access to the student website.
  • The Dance Teacher Certificate takes place exclusively in online classes via Zoom Meetings.
  • All sessions are recorded and made available to all participants afterwards as a stream.
  • This allows participants to decide for themselves when they want to view and learn the content or re-watch the course.
  • Very comprehensive scripts for download and additional literature (optional to read) on the different topics complete this perfect offer.


What this certificate training cannot do

The program is not currently state accredited. The degree is similar to that of a private school, the value of which depends solely on the reputation of the school and the instructors who work there. Currently, there is no state-recognized dance pedagogy training in the so-called ethno-cultural areas (Afro, Oriental, Flamenco, etc.) as well as Jazz Dance.  So we, the jomdance-academy, stand with our name and our nearly 20 years of experience in dance training in Europe for the quality of this certificate training. 


Aim of the certificate training

The goal of this certificate is to provide students with profound pedagogical and didactic teaching skills based on scientific knowledge in all dance areas (except ballet).

To positively differentiate, position, and excel in their future career field from "weekend or daytime dance/fitness education" and to be prepared for the challenges in the career field are additional goals of this certificate training.

A sound education in the field of pedagogy and didactics is essential for every teacher. Especially in adult education there is a big gap between demand and supply. The jomdance-academy works according to the principles of the achievement-goal model (Dweck & Elliott, 1983) and the self-determination theory (Ryan & Deci, 2000) with the motto: "The goal is the task of the students, not the ego of the teacher." Therefore, when considering whether participation in the program is appropriate, one's future goal should be clearly set. 

Who can participate in this certificate training?

The training is suitable for all dancing people who would like to teach or are already doing so at layman, amateur or professional level and are looking for scientifically based input for practice!
No college aptitude or other special school knowledge is required. A genuine interest in the content, openness to new things and the desire to offer good teaching are requirements. Furthermore, participants should have sufficient background knowledge in their profession. 

Duration of the certificate training

The program consists of about one third training time in online seminars and about two thirds theoretical-practical self-study at home - depending on the learning type, already existing experience, talent and interest in self-study. 

There are 60 mandatory hours, of which a maximum of 10% may be absences, plus exam weekend.

Module 2 - Warm up & Warm down

Meaningful content and effect of warm-up & warm-down.
20 hours self study including assessment

Module 3 - Lesson design - Part 1

10 hours:
On the usefulness of Self-Determination Theory, Performance Goal Theory, the PETTLEP & TARGET models, and the Teacher Frame of Reference in dance instruction.
20 hours self study including assessment

Module 4 - Lesson Design - Part 2
April 9th and 10th, 2022

10 hours:
basics of communication; feedback and its effect;
Why counting correctly is important; How language facilitates instruction. 
20 hours self study including assessment

Module 5 - Lesson Design - Part 3

10 hours:
Differences from technique to dance diagonals for different levels.
Effective content design of diagonals.
20 hours self study including assessment

Module 6 - Lesson Design - Part 4

10 hours:
Creating dance combinations for different levels.
Reasonable content design of dance combinations.
20 hour self study  including assessment

Preparation phase for the certificate examination
June - October 2022
During these 4 months, participants can take advantage of a maximum of 4x 2 hours of individual online coaching. In these coachings, questions about content, content design of the lessons, etc. can be asked or evaluated. Tips, tricks, mentoring and motivation are included.


Exam deadline: October 30, 2022, 11:59pm CET.
Items to be handed in are as follows:

  • Thesis: written, basic scientific elaboration of the previously learned theories with assignment in practice.
  • Practice: Filming of the self-designed and self-taught lesson of maximum 90 minutes with:
    • warm up 
    • Technique explanation
    • Technique diagonally / Dance diagonally
    • Dance combination
    • Warm down
